Buddha Bar

As anyone who reads this blog would know... Chris and I have a soft spot for Jolly Good Indian in Inglewood. We had heard a lot about the Buddha Bar and decided to see if it was all people said it was. We sat down and the waitress informed us of the all-you-can-eat $29 Sunday menu. We were quite impressed with that value. I had seen on urban spoon that they were gluten-free friendly and accompanied by the fact that 90% of Indian food is gluten free, I didn't think I'd have any issues. I tried to inform the waitress that I needed to know what dishes were gluten free, she replied "yes it is $29 tonight". I tried again, with "no you can't use kudos vouchers". She obviously couldn't understand a word I was saying (which is a little frustrating) so I said "allergic". That obviously caught her attention and she got another waitress to help us. She went to the chef and asked for me and to my delight, most meals were gluten free. I had the chicken tikka for an entree. The chicken meat was very tender and the spices were not too hot, but gave the chicken enough flavour without being overpowering. It was accompanied by a mint and yoghurt sauce that complimented it well, reducing any remaining spice.

For mains, Chris and I shared a lamb Rogan Josh and a butter chicken with basmati rice (he had some other dishes but he will probably explain those). The lame Rogan Josh was unimpressive. The meat itself just felt boring and the sauce wasn't anything special. I quite enjoyed the butter chicken though, the meat (like the entree) was very tender and the sauce was creamy and light.

In retrospect, it was good, but still did not live up to the standard of Jolly Good Indian. After eating, once everything had settled in my stomach, I actually felt a bit bloated and sick. Chris felt similar and neither of use had felt like that eating at other Indian restaurants.

Rating 3 out of 5,
With deals like all-you-can-eat, even if the quality isn't the best, it is fairly good value.
