I booked through Dimmi and as soon as we arrived they let us choose our seating, which I appreciated because I quite like being in quiet corners. Water was brought to the table promptly. We ordered our entree and mains, which was followed shortly with a waiter giving Chris a choice of about 5 different bread rolls. I was then told "we will be bringing out your gluten free bread soon". This was very unexpected as they had only inferred this from my menu choice or my gluten free comment on dimmi. I had beautifully toasted gluten free bread with a choice of butter, oil and balsamic vinegar (naturally I used all 3!).
We shared the Sautéed marinated Calamari in chili & garlic with herb salad. As you would all know from my previous blogs about squid, I am VERY fussy. This was the first squid I have actually enjoyed at a restaurant lately. It was fresh, tangy and filling. No disgusting overly fishy taste that is an indicator of old seafood. I was eagerly awaiting the mains after the excitement of the gluten free bread and the squid!
For my main I ordered, seared Duck breast with caramelized endive in butter & honey. The duck was lightly salted and was tender. The sauce admittedly was a little overpowering at times with an aniseed undertone. I ordered a side of mash which probably wasn't needed, however it did complement the duck when the sauce became over powering! I was still quite impressed with the quality of the my main dish.
