The Iron Pot

Chris surprised me on Saturday night and took me to "The Iron Pot". I had not heard of it, so I was unsure what to expect. It is connected to Edz sports bar, so when we arrived I started to get worried that it would be a typical tavern restaurant - dingy and smelling like smoke. I was very wrong. Although connected, it is almost fully cordoned off from the bar. It has a warm family feel and a quiet, but positive atmosphere. We were greeted immediately by a waitress who showed us to our table.

Chris had checked the menu before hand to see if there were gluten free options. Some of the meals were marked as gluten free and others were marked as having traces of gluten. I really wanted one of the meals that was marked as having traces of gluten. I asked the waitress what was in it that had the traces, she immediately got another staff member to help out (I assume he is a manager or the owner). He was wonderfully helpful and said he could get a different sauce made up and swap the side of chips for mash potato. I had a sirloin steak with a garlic butter sauce, mash and a side of spinach, onions and mushrooms. Chris copied me and ordered the same. The garlic butter sauce was very creamy, but not in a sickly way. I think the mash may have had some truffle oil in it because it had more of an earthy flavour that I had never experienced before. The meat was tender, possibly a little over cooked for medium-well done but it still had lots of flavour. The manager came and asked how our meals were going multiple times, which was really nice to see.

The prices were very reasonable, so it was really great value for such a delicious meal and lovely night out. With the entertainment book it came to $37 for the both of us!
