Like most taverns, there was a separate till/counter which is hidden from view when entering. It also uses the tavern-style format, where you order and pay at the till before the food is brought out. We were lightly encouraged to move quickly as there were two large groups turning up soon and their orders would take the kitchen some time.
I was not really taken by anything on the menu, so decided my old fallback, the parmigana. This one was supposed to be served with ham, what Rebecca calls a "Real" parmigana! We were a little confused by the waitress who took our drinks, asking whether we wanted to start a tab or pay as we go - we paid for drinks as we went but ordering drinks separately added a level of complication that wasn't necessary.
My parmi was brought out a little cool, and to my annoyance still with some small hidden bones in it. It was bland and needed more salt, and more Napoletan sauce. The chips were done in old, stale oil and lacked salt. The ham was either very lightly applied or was non-existent. The garden salad felt tired and the tomato could have been fresher. This meal became a 'refuelling' stop rather than food to be enjoyed.
Two stars, it wasn't terrible but a bit disappointing.
