Ellenbrook Chinese

Rebecca found Ellenbrook Chinese, and while it was a bit of a distance, we were both impressed.

I booked in advance, and the waitress sounded a bit confused as to why we needed to book. When I mentioned gluten free she was very accommodating to our needs. We were both surprised how easy it was, normally we expect it difficult to convey allergies.

The waitresses were excellent, very friendly and understanding. They had no issues at all with gluten free and were happy to advise, if at times a little overcautious. The place seemed very new indeed, with new fittings and a slight tint of 'new paint' smell.

I didn't want anything too heavy, so I ordered the tofu with minced chicken. It was marked spicy, but was anything but! I asked for some cut chili and soy to lift the dish up. Nevertheless, it was cheap for a very very large serve - easily enough for two people. Next time I think we'll share an entree and a main. I would have preferred a slightly stronger tasting, harder tofu but I was happy.

Rebecca's beef was a very good choice - tender and a little sweet. She probably chose better than I did.

We had to doggy-bag the rest as there was so much. A very good price for a nice meal, if a bit of a drive.

Five stars.
